Obituary

Gary Ray Ridens, age 75, passed away on May 15, 2019, in San Antonio, TX. He was born on September 9, 1943 to his parents, Chester and Janelle Ridens. Gary was born in Alton, Illinois. As a child, Gary loved to draw and play sports. He received his Associates degree in San Antonio, TX. His known career was construction. Gary was known as "THE CEILING MAN" in South Texas. He spent hours on a scaffold putting up ceilings all over San Antonio and the surrounding areas.

He also loved to sing! Gary loved to sing bass and spent many hours attending Southern Gospel Quartet Concerts. He would take his family to all night sings and they traveled all over the state of Texas seeing different groups. His favorite group was the Cathedrals.

Gary served in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Arizona when he met his beautiful wife, Ruth, who he married on July 1, 1968. Gary and Ruth lived in Illinois until 1972, then relocated to San Antonio, TX. Gary and Ruth worked tirelessly for the Nazarene Church where Gary served in different positions, such as, song leader, youth group leader, drama director, treasurer, Sunday School Superintendent, Bible School Director, and many more.

Gary devoted his life to his family and his Lord. Gary and his wife received the Nazarene Service Award for their 50 years of service to the church.

Gary is preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Janelle Ridens, his brothers, Ronnie and Palmer, and his sister Karen, and his son in law, Manuel Pena, Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Ellen Ridens; his daughters, Robin Ridens, Tracy Ridens-Pena, Trina Forthman and Son-in-law, Jarod Forthman, and Mary Zimmerman; Grandchildren, Jacob Tooley, Tara Tooley, and Tyler Tooley, Nathan Pena, Kurt Pena, and Ethan Pena, Tiffany Delph, Gary Phillips, Colton Ware, Kaylee Forthman, Mandi Forthman, and Sydney Forthman, Amy Zimmerman, Dakota Zimmerman; Great-Grandchildren, Kylee Delph, Brinlee Delph, and Blake Phillips. Brothers: Larry and Charles, and Sisters Beverly and Carole.
