Obituary

George Godfrey Berg, 86, passed away in his San Antonio home, August 11, surrounded by his family. George valued and loved his family, country, and God, and enhanced every day with his keen sense of humor.

Born to George G. Berg and Margaret Kemble Berg, George was raised in Wilkinsberg, PA. The family moved to Ohio, where George met his wife of 64 years, Ann Hennings Berg, at Elyria High School. After graduating in 1951, George attended Miami University of Ohio for one year before enlisting in the United States Air Force.

George had a distinguished career, serving 20 years as a pilot, primarily flying C-130s. He flew over 4000 hours, including overseas assignments in Korea, Viet Nam, Germany, Japan, and Turkey. He enjoyed stateside assignments in Hawaii, California, Ohio, and his favorite, San Antonio, Texas. George was recognized for his invaluable work with numerous commendations, including the Distinguished Flying Cross and a Bronze Star.

After retiring from the USAF as a Lt. Colonel in March of 1973, George worked for Datapoint Corporation as Facilities Manager, and later as Building Manager at the Tower Life Building in San Antonio. He enjoyed traveling, music, reading, and his pet dogs.

George is survived by his wife , Ann; their four children and spouses: Carol Berg Harle and her husband, Judge Sidney Harle of San Antonio, Texas; Bob Berg and his wife, Mary Kay Berg of Ann Arbor, Michigan; Sue Kuentz and her husband, Chuck Kuentz of Bulverde, Texas; and John Berg and his wife, Elaine Berg of Evergreen, Colorado. Additional family members include his six grandchildren and spouses: Kimberly and Carlos Solis; Dan Berg and Vanessa Gomez; Kelly and Noel Dominguez; Philip and Lauren Kuentz; Paul and Brittany Harle; and Chase Kuentz. George's three great-grandchildren are Nico and Lina Solis, and Quinn Harle, and his loving dog, Suzy.

Visitation is Friday, August 16 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., and the funeral service is Saturday, August 17, at 1:00 p.m. Both will be held at
