Obituary

Gerald (Jerry) Elmer Gueldner, a lifelong resident of San Antonio, passed away on Monday, November 19, 2018 at the age of 88. Jerry was born August 09, 1930 to the late Elmer George Gueldner and Mae Helen Ousset Gueldner. He attended St Anthony grade school and graduated from Central Catholic High School, Class of 1948. He enrolled at San Antonio College and later enlisted in the Army National Guard and retired as a Major. Jerry became a master electrician during his employment with Nathan Alterman Electric Company, and later joined his brother John Gueldner at Gueldner Electric Company. He was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 60 and National Electrical Contractors Association. Jerry retired from Gueldner Electric Company in 2000, followed by volunteering his time and talents at the Bexar County Jail Detention Ministry and later at the Bexar County Appraisal District as a board member appraising farms, ranches, and large commercial accounts.

Jerry and his late wife Margaret were charter members of St. Matthews Catholic Church and very active in parish work. Jerry was active in The Knights of Columbus, parish counsel, Right of Life Monument, the parish ballpark, and providing Bibles to our military.

Jerry's best friend and love of his life for sixty-one years, Mary Margaret (Willis) Gueldner, preceded him in death. They loved to travel to visit family, friends and explore the United States and abroad. Jerry is survived by his children, Virginia Ann Dicker, husband Chuck of New Braunfels, TX, Thomas Gerald Gueldner, wife Rosie of Port Aransas, TX, Patrick Anthony Gueldner, wife Patricia of Spring Branch, TX and Christine Marie Hoog, friend Jeff Payne of San Antonio, TX, 8 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. In addition, Mr. Gueldner is survived by his brother, John Gueldner and wife Jerrie of San Antonio, TX and sister-in-law, Lucy (Willis) Rusiewicz of Colorado Springs, CO. He cherished the friendship of Elva Zemis Pagel of Helotes, TX.

Jerry lived a good life as exemplified by his love of God, country, family, friends and service to others. The family expresses their sincere thanks to Mary Gonzales for her two years of devoted service, the staff at Independence Hill Assisted Living, River City Health Care and Kindred Hospice for their compassionate and caring staff.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm followed by the Rosary on Sunday, December 2, 2018 at Porter Loring Mortuary North. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am at St. Matthews Catholic Church on Monday, December 3, 2018 followed by burial at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
