Obituary for Gerald Wayne Laubach

November 18, 1952 - November 14, 2017
San Antonio, Texas | Age 64

. . . being his true nature Gerald decided to join the San Antonio Police Department in 1983.

Gerald Wayne Laubach was called home to be with our Lord on Tuesday November 14th at the age of 64. He graduated from Thomas Edison High School where he was on the track team as a long distance runner and then attended Texas Lutheran College shortly after. Growing up, Gerald loved to spend time on his Opa's ranch, deer hunting with his brothers and cousins, attending bible study, camping at Garner State Park, going to Edison High School football games, and teaching his younger siblings how to play tennis. He loved spending time with family after church and making everyone laugh. Gerald had a wonderful sense of humor and never saw the faults in others. He was a generous and humble man always willing to help others in need. With this being his true nature Gerald decided to join the San Antonio Police Department in 1983. This was something he had always wanted to do and felt he could do a lot of good in our city as a police officer. It wasn't long before Gerald was well known in the department as the funny guy and was very well respected as a police officer and friend. In 1991, Gerald was awarded the 'Police Officer of the Year 'award. In fact, Gerald received numerous awards and commendations for his brave actions and work in law enforcement. As much as Gerald loved being a police officer, he loved his family and our Lord our Savior even more. After retiring from the police department after 22 years, Gerald focused on his family and church. He continued his bible study at Redeemer Lutheran Church before falling ill to dementia. Gerald was a beautiful man with a beautiful heart. He will be dearly missed by all who have had the honor of knowing him.
He is survived by his wife, Debra Swager and children, Lisa Macias and husband, Oscar, Stephanie Laubach and husband, Charles Ward, and Matthew Laubach and wife, Veronica; grandchildren, Ashlee, Kaitlyn, Jaime, Isabella, Devin, and Hunter; great grandchildren, Hailey, Ailayah and Chakara; siblings, Larry Laubach and wife, Catherine, Kathy Rothen and husband, Rob, LuAnn Lockerbie and husband, Owen, James Laubach and wife, Rene; and is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Doris Laubach, and sibling, Dorothy Jackenheimer.
Memorial Services will be held on December 1st at 11:00 o'clock at:
Huisache Avenue Baptist Church
1339 West Huisache Avenue
San Antonio Texas, 78201

The family will be arriving early, if you would like to visit with them prior to the service.
