Obituary

Geri Friedman was an incredible, amazing, and resilient woman. Amazing because of who she was, resilient because of the way she loved her life. Born in Philadelphia on July 2, 1934 to Sylvia and Martin Lax, she grew up with her best friend and younger brother, Donnie, her younger sister Sandy and her baby brother Chuck. She graduated from West Philadelphia High School and in 1958, she married the love of her life, Marvin, whom she met on a blind date. They enjoyed 39 years of marriage before his passing in 1997. Early in their marriage, Marvin and Geri were told that they couldn't have children. A few years later, they adopted a beautiful baby girl, Cheryl. When Cheryl was 11, she decided she wanted a baby brother. Not long after, Geri became pregnant and despite warnings from the doctors and at great risk to herself, she went forward with the pregnancy and welcomed their precious son, Marc into the world.

Geri was a career woman for most of her life, even when it was uncommon for women to be working. She began her professional career at Smith, Kline and Beecham, a pharmaceutical company in downtown Philadelphia. After Marvin's military career brought them to Texas, she became an apartment manager, at various properties across San Antonio. In the last chapter of her career, she enjoyed working for Steve and Maury Hartle at New York Life.

Once she retired, she moved into Wedgewood, a retirement community in San Antonio. While there, she always loved to socialize with the other residents and most importantly looked forward to outings to restaurants with her friends all over the city. Sadly, Wedgewood had a fire, and her resiliency came into play again, as this 80+ year old woman managed to escape the fire. Tragically, not all of her friends were so fortunate.

Geri and several of her displaced friends and neighbors re-settled into New Forest Estates and she resumed her active social life. She was a strong woman until the end and enjoyed her final Mother's Day with her children and daughter-in-law by her side.

Geri is preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Friedman; her parents, Martin and Sylvia Lax; and her brother, Donnie Lax.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Jorge Garcia; her son and daughter-in-law, Marc Friedman and Stacey Glazer; her sister and brother in law Sandy and Jay Seitz and her brother, Chuck Lax and their extended families.

Graveside services will be held at the Rodfei Sholom cemetery, 703 Division San Antonio, TX US 78225, at 2pm on Tuesday, May 15. Following the services, there will be a shiva minyan and a gathering of friends and family at the home of Jorge and Cheryl Garcia 11433 Lago Vista; Helotes, TX 78023.
