Obituary for Glynn W. Butler

May 23, 1939 - May 16, 2018
San Antonio, Texas | Age 78

Glynn Wayne Butler, 78, of San Antonio, Texas passed from this earth to his heavenly home May 16, 2018 after a short and peaceful period at Kindred Hospice.

Glynn was born May 23, 1939 in Hominy, Oklahoma, the first child of Clark Maurice Butler and Doris Louise (Wynn) Butler. He was raised in Oklahoma and Kansas, graduating from high school in Wichita, Kansas in 1957. After high school, Glynn attended Wichita University for a couple of semesters.

Glynn proudly and honorably served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve as an Infantryman from 1960 to 1966, graduating from boot camp at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, California and advanced training at Camp Pendleton, California. Upon completion of his initial military training, Glynn returned to Oklahoma where he attended Central State College and graduated with a B.S. in Business in 1963.

After graduating from college, Glynn began a career in the insurance field, working first for Crawford and Company Adjusters in Georgia. He met and married his first wife, Annett Mckendree during his time in Georgia. Annette and Glynn moved to Little Rock, Arkansas in 1965, living there for a year before moving to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma for Glynn to work at Home Insurance as Loss and Claim Superintendent. In September of 1972, Glynn accepted a position with USAA in San Antonio, Texas where he worked 30 years until retirement in 2002.

Glynn married Minerva Limon in 1999 and from this union came the greatest adventure of Glynn's adult life, his son, Matthew Clark Butler. Inspired by this late life blessing, Glynn began to explore faith through the Catholic Church and came to a personal testimony of faith in Jesus Christ. Glynn considered Matthew, a gift from the Lord. It was his greatest honor to have experienced every day he had with Matthew.

Glynn loved family history and his uncanny ability to recall the stories of his past and those passed down to him are treasured by his family. We will miss him dearly, and hope to honor his life by the continued telling of his story.

Glynn is preceded in death by his parents. Glynn leaves behind his son, Matthew Clark Butler; brother, Clark Michael Butler; nieces, Kimberly (Jason) Kappmeyer, Christina (Brady) Russell and Kelli (Nick) Wright; and five great nieces and one great nephew. Glynn also leaves behind Minerva Butler and her sons, Jeff, Craig and Tyler Pozzi and dear lifetime friend, Annette Butler.
