Obituary

Helga Drenkhahn Puschak, 79, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2017 in San Antonio after a brief illness. She was born December 1, 1937 in Bremerhaven, Germany to Theodor and Hannah (Indorf) Drenkhahn. There she met and married the love of her life William Frederick Puschak, USN,and shortly thereafter moved with him to the United States.

Helga was an amazing wife, caring, loving mother and grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to so many. Helga had the unique ability to make lifelong friends wherever they were stationed in the US Navy and in civilian life thereafter. She was a member of St. Padre Pio Catholic Church, and worked for AAFES and was a volunteer at the Fisher House. Helga was the ultimate and supportive Navy wife, and made their house a home at every duty station from Alaska, Okinawa, Japan, Puerto Rico and to many other duty stations. Helga was so very proud of her husband's service and one of her proudest days occurred in Alaska when she became an American Citizen on June 18, 1965. She loved God and County, she was an American Patriot! After retirement from the US Navy Helga and Bill opened the Alamo Heights Office supply store and eventually retired to enjoy a life of leisure.

Helga is survived by her son Gary C. Puschak and daughter-in-law Marilyn of Boise, ID and daughter Michelle H. Puschak Hoffman of San Antonio, her grandsons Tyler F. Hoffman and Charles W. Puschak, her sisters Emma Drenkhahn Adamek and Christa Drenkhahn Sabatzus of Germany, and nieces Inge Assing and Heike Lueders of Germany, Maria Lamberton of California, and nephew Klaus Adamek of Germany and cousins, grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, "Bill" William Frederick Puschak on Dec. 28, 2016.

She will be deeply missed by family and friends.
