Hubert Gilbert Eckhardt passed away the morning of November 21, 2017 surrounded by his family. Hubert was the seventh child of Hugo A. and Marie Feuge Eckhardt. He was born on August 28, 1933 in Blanco County, Texas.

He attended Harper High School, following, he entered the United States Army. He received his honorable discharge in 1955. For a short period of time he joined the Eckhardt Brothers Builders – homebuilding business, where he worked alongside his brothers. It was this chapter in his life that had introduced him to his dear friend, Ernest Scrivener. He then worked at Scrivener's store for the next 44 years, and retired in June 2000.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Gladys Jenschke Eckhardt, two children Becky Maron (Patrick) and Allen Eckhardt (Margaret), four grandchildren Colby & Casey Maron, and Megan & Clayton Eckhardt, brother, Alton (Jackie), sister-in-law Loreen, and numerous nieces and nephews.

While working full-time at Scrivener's he was a part time farmer and rancher. Upon retirement, it became a full-time job. Hubert was also very active with 4-H, receiving his Friend of 4-H award in 1987. Hubert was very active in the sheep industry, introducing and passing on his passion to his children and grandchildren. He was an avid hunter, and was determined to share his knowledge of the harvesting and processing of wildlife. He could fix, build or modify anything whether it needed it or not.

Hubert put his heart and soul into his family and homestead. Particular in his mindset, he was known for "having everything the way he wanted it to be." He loved to tell stories about the old days and loved to make people laugh. His support and kindness never went unnoticed.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 25, 2017, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.

1:00 P.M.

Fr. Mark Raya will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Church-Honey Creek Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Center for the Intrepid or a charity of your choice.
