Obituary

Idelle Ringel Abramson, was born in 1928 in Houston, Texas, the daughter of Harry and Esther Ringel. A devoted wife and mother, loving grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend to so many loved ones, Idelle passed away at home on November 27, 2017, after a 4-year battle with cancer.

After receiving her Masters Degrees in History and English, Idelle taught senior English for many years at Churchill High School, was an editor for several newspapers and journals and was an eager volunteer who served her beloved San Antonio Jewish Community, as well as non-Jewish Communities, for over fifty years. Her involvement in the volunteer choir at Temple Beth-El brought her great joy and satisfaction and was a favorite activity for many years. In her own words, she said, "I have been fortunate, indeed, to have been able to do these things which have given me so much pleasure, along with the opportunity to give something back."

Idelle's love of travel always excited her. Besides skiing the Colorado Mountains with her grandsons, she and her husband, Norman, traveled the world more than thirty times gaining new friends, meeting fellow travelers and sharing her stories of the wonders of the world. Idelle's heart was warm and compassionate, her concern for others immense, and her smile was radiant. She is remembered with loving hearts by her husband of 71 years, Norman; her sons, Phillip and Mark; daughters-in-law, Lisa and Marilyn; two grandsons, David and Joshua; their wives, Lisa and Lynn; great-grandchildren, Noah, Samantha, Lauren, Owen and Cooper; her sister and brother-in-law, Chickie and Leo Rose; sister-in-law, Susie Abramson, along with her many beloved nieces and nephews. The Abramson family deeply appreciates the loving care given to Idelle by Marianne, Nichole, Kellie, Jane and every other one of her caregivers.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, November 29th at 2:00 pm at Beth-El Memorial Park on the Austin Highway.
