..."Que Dios te bendiga" ...

Obituary

Irene De La Garza Cano passed away Wednesday July 26th, 2017 in San Antonio, TX at the age of 95.

Irene was born in Austwell, TX. on June 8th 1922 and shortly thereafter, moved to Laredo, TX, where she lived most of her 95 years. She was the daughter of Antonio De La Garza and Maria Mayorga De La Garza, who were both from Mexico but met and married in Austwell, TX.

Her parents had 9 children of whom she was the last surviving. She dedicated her life to raising her own children, 9 in total after losing a child shortly after birth.
Her family legacy did not end there, Irene was blessed with 16 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren. Even though many of them were spread throughout the country, she remained very close to them all.

Her grandchildren were her favorite subject to talk about. She kept their pictures above her sofa so she could speak about each one fondly when she had visitors, which was often as her door was always open.

Irene was preceded in death by her eldest sons Candelario Flores Jr. and Jose Antonio Flores.

She is survived by Eduardo Flores, Diana (Doug) Lacey, Reynaldo Flores, Maria Flores, Rolando Flores, Irma (Jeff) Hunter and Cynthia Cano.

Irene will be remembered most for her selflessness, devotion, steadfast faith, remarkable laugh, perfect tortillas, and affectionate spirit.

She was a model of grace and loved by everyone who knew her.

Her strongest connection was to God, and she devoted large periods of her day to prayer. She constantly prayed for her family and loved ones, and one always felt blessed after spending time with her.

"Que Dios te bendiga" was always the last expression out of her mouth when saying goodbye..

You will be missed Irene, but we know you're in a better place, resting peacefully.

From all of us to you, que Dios te bendiga.
