Obituary for Mr. Isaac Jordan Batey

December 22, 1992 - May 31, 2018
San Antonio, Texas | Age 25

Isaac Jordan Batey, age 25, passed away on Thursday, May 31, 2018, in San Antonio. He was born in Port Byron, IL on December 22, 1992, to Lyle and Valerie Batey.

From an early age Isaac showed unusual aptitude. Homeschooling by his parents was made easy as he sought mastery of his interests with diligence and energy. His father, a pianist himself, sought to direct some of this energy toward music and the piano. This became a dominant focus with Isaac establishing a rigorous practice schedule and becoming an accomplished performer of classical piano repertoire while still a teen.

Eventually, in seeking direction vocationally, it was suggested that he stay close to his love of the piano through self-employment as a piano technician. Entering this field and persevering through early challenges he caught the attention of older technicians, eventually becoming an apprentice under Mr. Johnny Verduzco then tuner for the San Antonio Symphony. Having gleaned invaluable help and confidence, soon Isaac was himself tuning for the Symphony as well as the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts, preparing pianos for appearances by world famous pianists such as Olga Kern and Emanuel Ax. His reputation well established, he was sought out by local universities, performing venues and discerning clients until his schedule of work was both fulfilling and exhausting.

The accomplished musician and piano tuner also loved conversation with friends and family, flashing a quick smile and laugh at every humorous turn. Ever loyal and straightforward, he anticipated the same, expressing disappointment when facing the sometimes-harsh realities of a treacherous world. As a diversion he enjoyed outdoor activities and exercise: running, yard work, a walk in the park.

By his commitment to excellence, and by his personal and professional faithfulness, he earned both the respect and appreciation of those whose paths he crossed. Among those who knew him best, he earned completely their love.

Survivors include his grandparents Collin and Evelyn Batey, Elsie Calhoun; parents Lyle and Valerie Batey; two sisters, Leah Wells and husband Matthew, and Catherine Tekeste and husband Nabil; half-brother Josiah Batey; and two nephews, Isaiah and Ezra. As well as many aunts and uncles.

11:00 A.M.

Pastor Mitchell Jones will officiate. Interment will follow in San Jose Burial Park.
