Obituary for Jack " Poppy" Charles

September 26, 1930 - July 12, 2017
San Antonio, Texas | Age 86

Jack was born September 26, 1930 in San Antonio, TX. He was a 1948 graduate of Jefferson High School and an avid athlete, particularly as a competitive swimmer. In 1950 Jack married the love of his life, Lorene Stein, in Houston, TX, and there they had two children, Marsha and Mike. In 1954, they moved to San Antonio where he owned A&A Lumber Company and FCC Enterprises for many years. It wasn't until later that Jack became well known for his jewelry business. He became the go to jeweler for all who knew him.

Poppy lived for his family and was a stand-in grandfather for so many. He was a second father to his grandchildren, Traci and Chad. Anyone who met Jack was only a stranger but once; only on rare occasion can you go somewhere without someone knowing Jack Charles.

As a master of poetry and joke-telling, we all know he is making heaven a little more entertaining! Jack lived a life full of love, laughter, and passion. You never left a conversation with Poppy without a smile on your face. As he leaves this world, we'll forever smile in remembrance of him. Jack is preceded in death by his spouse Lorene Charles, his parents Joe and Rose Charles, sister Eva Karin, brother Aaron Charles, and daughter-in-law Meg Charles. Jack is survived by his sister Alda Epstein, daughter Marsha Charles and son Mike Charles, granddaughter Traci (David) Marroquin, grandson Chad (Melissa) Charles, and great grandchildren Elliott and Garrett Marroquin and Reece Charles.
