Obituary

Jacqueline Ann Schuy Stakes passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones on Monday, March 9, 2020. Born on April 13, 1942 in Waterloo, Iowa to John and Parma Schuy, Jackie moved to Monterey, Mexico after grade school, and graduated from the American School of Monterey in 1960.
Thereafter, she moved to San Antonio, TX and attended the Drones Business School. It was in San Antonio that she also met and married her beloved husband, Richard Ernest Stakes, on September 18, 1965.

In the early 1970s, Jackie and Richard moved to McAllen, TX, where Jackie was very involved in the community. She was an active member in the Beta Sigma Phi sorority, and she worked tirelessly during her membership in the Junior League of McAllen. Jackie was also very active in The Women of St. John's Episcopal Church, and she was a board member of St. John's Episcopal School. She was also the much-loved McAllen High School Assistant Cheerleading sponsor for several years.

Richard and Jackie moved back to San Antonio in 2000, where Jackie again devoted herself to community service. She served terms as President, and subsequently Vice-President, of the Boysville Auxilliary League of San Antonio, and was very active in the organization for many years.

Jackie will be remembered not only for her service to others, but she was also very talented and creative. She made hooked rugs and mosaic art. She was excellent at cross-stitching and needlepoint. Jackie also had a great deal of knowledge about and a very keen eye for early American antiques, which she collected as another of her hobbies.

Jackie is survived by her devoted husband, Richard Stakes, as well as their two children, Lee Randall Stakes (wife Shea) and Kathryn Miles Payne (husband Christopher). She is also survived by her beautiful grandchildren Wesley Nicole Stakes, Carson William Stakes ( their mother, Melissa ) of Kingwood, TX and Preston Chadwick Payne of San Antonio TX.

She is also survived by her sister Janis Jackson (husband Dale) of Fulsher, TX and her niece Heather Blackmore of Katy, TX and nephew Chris Jackson of Boerne, TX, as well as her nephew Donald Schuy, Jr., son of her beloved brother Donald Schuy who predeceased her.

Richard and his family would like to thank the Embrace Hospice of San Antonio for their care of Jackie during the last several days of her life.

A visitation service will be held on Sunday, March 15, 2020 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Porter Loring Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Boysville Auxiliary of San Antonio which will help fund the Boysville children's library.
