San Antonio, Texas | Age 85
LTC James L. Anderson, USA, Ret., a devoted Catholic, father, husband, and brother, age 85, passed away on Friday, October 23, 2015 in San Antonio, Texas. "Super Jim" / Dad / Dadio / Pop / Poppa / Opa / Grandpa & friend—whichever name you called him, you could always count on him being there for you. Gifted with a warm, outgoing sense of humor, he was thought of as the "GREATEST man we know" and he made us all better. LTC Anderson was proud to serve his country and the Army for over 20 years from 1952-1973. During that tenure, he served as Captain of the Golden Knights elite US Army Parachute Team (with over 2,000 jumps), and also led the Airborne and Ranger Departments at Ft. Benning, GA for his Capstone assignment before retiring in 1973. Although he loved serving his country, his greatest accomplishment and legacy is his family of 13 children known as "Anderson's Army" (8 boys and 5 girls—seven of which served on Active Duty in the military at one time). His emphasis on "balance in life" and favorite saying of "Good, Better, Best--never let it rest, 'til the good gets better, and the better gets BEST" were words to live by and guided the family throughout the years. We love you and are proud to have been part of your 85 wonderful years of life. It has been our honor and privilege to be your family and friend. Along with his family, golf was a big part of his life and his passion. He is now playing the best courses in the world up in Heaven and never has to wait for a tee time. Hit 'em well dad!
LTC Anderson is pre-deceased by several family members who welcomed him to Heaven with open arms. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Air Force Village Charitable Foundation (Blue Skies of Texas East--The Mission and Hospice Care). The folks at the Mission and Hospice were phenomenal care givers for him over the last 3 1/2 years. Our family cannot thank them enough for all their kindness, compassion, daily care and assistance they provided dad. A special thanks to Bob Welch, his life long battle buddy, for his unconditional friendship throughout this entire journey.
