Obituary for Janie Mazuca Delgado

March 27, 1920 - November 13, 2018
San Antonio, Texas | Age 98

After a full life, Janie Mazuca Delgado, beloved Matriarch of the San Antonio Mazuca and Delgado families, has gone to heaven on November 13, 2018 at the age of 98. She was preceded in death by her husband, Reynolds Casanova Delgado and her beloved grandson, David Russell Delgado.

Janie was born March 27, 1920 in Houston Texas to Elvira and Federico Mazuca, but moved to San Antonio at an early age, where she lived most of her life. She had 7 brothers, Leo, Jesse, Fred, Arthur, Patrick, Victor and Rudy, all who predeceased her, and one loving younger sister, Rebecca Mazuca Garcia (Jerry) still living in San Antonio.

Janie was a longtime parishioner of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church and traveled with the San Jose Mission group to visit holy shrines in Italy. She loved traveling to visit her family and her favorite trips included San Francisco, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New Orleans, and Venezuela. Janie lived a wonderful life and was a strong woman. A good example of this is when she stood up to the school board to insist that her children go to the best school in the neighborhood, which up until then did not admit non-anglos. Janie graduated from Fox Tech High School and worked at several jobs before marrying and becoming a fulltime mother to three children, Reynolds II Delgado (Vicki) of Sugar Land, Sylvia Delgado-Moser (Robert) of Austin, and David Delgado (Terry) of Dallas, all living.

Janie had 5 grandchildren, Cristi Delgado of Oakland CA, Dr. Reynolds III Delgado of Houston, David Russell Delgado (Virginia) deceased, Daniel Moser (Caitlin) of Albuquerque NM, and Nicholas Moser of Munich Germany. She also had 5 great grandchildren. From her grandson, Reynolds III, there are Ellie, Lanie, Reynolds IV, Bliss and Remy. From her grandson David Russell, there are Ben Bravo, and Laura Bravo. In addition, she had many nieces, nephews and godchildren.

The family wishes to thank the devoted caregivers at Brush Country Nursing home for giving Janie their loving care and friendship.

The immediate family will receive friends and family from 5:00 to 6:30 PM on Sunday, November 18, 2018 at Porter Loring Mortuary, 1101 McCullough followed by a Rosary at 6:30 PM.

A Mass will be held Monday, November 19, 2018 at 10:30 AM at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 223 E. Summit at McCullough.

Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 17501 Nacogdoches Rd after which everyone is invited to a lunch reception at Our Lady of Grace Madonna Room at 1:15 PM.
