Obituary

SGM Jerry Bethel Geiger passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, May 1, 2020 at the age of 90. Jerry was preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Kathryn Geiger, and siblings Nadine Sauls, Helen Lombardo, Charles Geiger, Glenn Geiger and stepchildren William C. Youngblood and Patricia Sauls. He is survived by his son Charles T. Geiger and wife Sharon, his daughter Cindy McDermott, his son Darrell Geiger and wife Denia, his daughter Lomisa Talbot and husband Sean, and daughter Tracy Cetera and husband John. He also survived by his twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Jerry was born in Palmetto, Florida, on February 1, 1930. He spent all of his youth in Florida before enlisting in the United States Army at the age of 17. During his time in the Army, he served two tours in Korea, two tours in Germany and one in Vietnam before retiring as a Sergeant Major after 30 years of service. He retired in San Antonio, Texas, in July, 1977.

Upon his retirement, he began a second career as an owner/operator of his own trucking company. He retired from that career after another 30 years of service to care for Kathryn as she battled cancer.

During both careers and his retirement, Jerry enjoyed swapping stories with his family about his time in the military and growing up in Florida. He loved to go hunting and fishing. Jerry also loved horses, BBQ's, crawfish boils, and could always be found watching westerns when he was at home.

His family would like to thank his caregiver, Josie Cantu, for her support over the years. They would also like to thank New Century Hospice for their care in his final days and Visiting Angels for providing their assistance while he was at home.

Funeral arrangements are pending. Jerry will be buried at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with full military honors.
