Obituary

Joe Rodriguez, age 84, passed away on Friday, November 29, 2019, in San Antonio, Texas, surrounded by his loving family. Joe was born on June 8, 1935 in San Antonio, to parents, Francisca Cortinas and Manuel Rodriguez. Joe served and retired from the United States Navy, serving for 22 years, and participated during the Korean War. He also served 2 years during the Vietnam War. He traveled around the world and visited numerous countries. Joe went on to have a lustrous career at Kelly Air Force Base, retiring with 38 years of federal service. He was also a respected member of the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid classic car aficionado, and enjoyed following the San Antonio Spurs. Joe was full of life and loved people. He would go out of his way to help anyone in need. He was humorous and enjoyed making people laugh. He was especially proud to be a grandfather and great-grandfather. Joe will be remembered as a true all-American hero who lived with integrity and respect. He will forever be missed by his family and every person who was blessed to know him. He was preceded in death by, his parents; first wife, Estella Rodriguez; grandson, Joey Rodriguez III; and sister, Hope Tyler. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Juanita Rodriguez; two sons, Emilio Rodriguez (Rosa Cano), and Joe Rodriguez, Jr. (Frances); his daughter, Maria Esther Ruiz (Roy); grandchildren, Veronica Sanchez, Irene Rodriguez, Matthew, David and Mia Ruiz; great-grandchildren, Frank IV and Angel Sanchez; sisters, Faustina Lopez and Santos Lopez; brothers, Eliseo Mendoza and Freddie Mendoza; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. The family would like to extend special thanks to the River City Hospice staff for their care and compassion.
