Obituary

After a lengthy and courageous battle with colon cancer, our beloved dad and loving husband, John G. Wagenfehr, Jr., age 87, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 with his family at his side. He was born to wonderful parents, John and Margaret Wagenfehr in San Antonio; graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1949 and Texas A&M in 1953. Johnny proudly enlisted in the US Army and was honorably discharged with the rank of 1st Lieutenant in 1955.

After the military, he began his career at Service Parts & Machine Company, established in 1938, which he then purchased in 1977. He served as President of the San Antonio Automotive Wholesalers from 1989-1990. For 17 years, he was a devoted CYO basketball coach and in 1974 he was named coach of the year for the South-East Zone. Johnny had a passion for sports, most notably golf and fishing. He held the record for most "hole in ones" at Riverside's par three course acing all 9 holes at least once. He loved spending time with his wife and family, especially when sitting out on the water in a boat or laughing seaside with the sound of the surf crashing behind him. The memories by the shore will forever reign as Port Aransas was known as his second home. He would fish from sunup to sundown in every weather condition. He was a dedicated fan of his children's and grandchildren's extracurricular activities and an avid San Antonio Spurs fan since the ABA. Johnny made such an impact to those around him through his positive attitude, generosity and radiant smile. His ability to both inspire and motivate others to be their very best showed his selfless nature and unconditional love. Heaven just hooked a good one.

Johnny was preceded in death by his parents John Wagenfehr and Margaret O'Mealy, daughter, Chrysa Bratz; grandson Christopher Bratz; and sister, Margaret Johnson. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Adeline Viola "Vi" Weber Wagenfehr; their children: Lori Crabb, Cindy Ledwig (Joe), Dona Kappmeyer (Charles), John G. Wagenfehr, III (Melissa) and son-in-law, Stephen Bratz; three granddaughters: Sarah Ledwig, Kaylin Bratz and Cymbrey Kappmeyer; seven grandsons who will serve as Pallbearers: Ryland Crabb (Cheyanne); John Crabb, Dustin Ledwig, Stephen Bratz Jr., Chuck Kappmeyer, Ty Bratz, John Cody Wagenfehr; one step-granddaughter, Stephanie Moore (Robby); one great-granddaughter, Tynlee Crabb; step great grandchildren Trey and Maddy Moore; brother-in-law, Marcus Maurer and other relatives and wonderful friends.

Visitation will be held Thursday, April 19th beginning at 5:00pm with recitation of the rosary at 7:00pm in the chapel at Porter Loring on McCullough.
