Obituary

John Matthew Hudson, 49, passed away in San Antonio on May 16, 2019. He was born in Ponca City, Oklahoma on December 19, 1969. His formative years were spent in Burnet, Texas until he moved to San Antonio to attend St. Mary's University where he earned an Accounting Degree. During his college years, he met Cindy Hudson and the two had a long courtship as they focused on obtaining advanced degrees. John was a very bright individual and earned a Doctorate of Jurisprudence at South Texas College of Law in Houston. He earned a prestigious position at Enron beating out many other law students. John and Cindy married on August 14, 1999 and after a few years, moved to North Palm Beach, Florida where he worked for another energy company and entered the next phase of his life, fatherhood. His daughter, Isabella, was his pride and joy. John did not have any sisters and raising a daughter was an exciting yet frightening experience. He worried endlessly about Isabella and whether he was preparing her for future independence. Many mistakes were made and he ultimately recognized that there needed to be a balance between tough love and just plain old love.

John and Isabella shared a love of music, specifically classic rock and heavy metal, much to the chagrin of his wife who did not share that passion (it was very loud at home). John also had a passion for classic cars and we joked that he was trying to be the Jay Leno of San Antonio. The passion had a purpose, his intent was to help fund Isabella's college tuition with the sale of the vehicles. Isabella also developed an interest in cars; although, she was pretty embarrassed when John showed up at her elementary school driving a red Corvette. It reminded her of the scene in the movie "Pretty in Pink" when Jake Ryan shows up for Molly Ringwald. Isabella cringed and put her head down while the teachers all thought it was pretty cool.

John and his family returned to San Antonio in late 2007 to be close to family. He worked for the IRS as a Tax Specialist for 13 years and was very good at his job. Most IRS agents are not attorneys so John's educational background made him uniquely qualified to perform his job. John was a very loyal and trustworthy person. His family is Sicilian on his mother's side and Austrian/German on his father's side. This made for an interesting combination, personality-wise. John was considered the "vault". If a friend or family member shared something in confidence, it was forever locked away. He would not divulge the information even if his wife pestered him.

John will be missed by many people. The loss is enormous and heartbreaking to those of us who loved him. We are comforted by the fact that one day we will be reunited. Survivors include his wife, Cindy T. Hudson; daughter, Isabella A. Hudson; his parents, Dr. Joseph A. and Phyllis Hudson; brother, Chris Hudson and wife Melissa; and two nephews, CJ and Evan Hudson.
