Jose M. Gutierrez, Jr., age 95, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, May 31, 2020 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born and raised in Hebbronville, Texas. Jose proudly and honorably served in the United States Army during World War II at the Medical Detachment 131st Station Hospital, India. He later earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Texas College of Arts and Industries in 1952, and his Master of Education degree from Our Lady of the Lake College in 1954. Jose dedicated 40 years of his life to education beginning with Hebbronville High School, Hebbronville, Texas, followed by various schools within the San Antonio Independent School District, San Antonio, Texas. Over the years he was promoted from Teacher of Mathematics and Mechanical Drawing to the positions of Dean, Vice Principal, and Principal. During a period of this time he also taught Spanish to military veterans in the evenings at Lackland AFB, Texas. Jose retired from education in June 1988 as Principal of Louis W. Fox Academic and Technical High School. Jose was awarded the Distinguished Service Award by the San Antonio Independent School District Board of Education for significant contributions he made over 38 years. He was a member of the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals, and a life member in both the North San Antonio Retired Teachers Association and Texas Retired Teachers Association. Jose really enjoyed going to the ranch, working in the yard, spending time on the computer, but mostly being with the family. Family and friends called him by his nickname Pepe. Jose was of the Roman Catholic faith and strongly believed in God and everlasting life. Jose was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who always put his family before himself. He was an exemplary role model who led with strict discipline, fairness and integrity. Jose will be greatly and sadly missed by his family and friends, but his memories will last forever in our hearts.

Jose was preceded in death by his parents, Jose M. Gutierrez, Sr. and Dora Vela Gutierrez; brothers, Jose A. Gutierrez, Lauro G. Vela, and Romeo Gutierrez; sisters, Elma Gutierrez Ortiz, Dora Gutierrez Gonzales, and Maria Yolanda Gutierrez. Jose is survived by his beautiful and loving wife of 67 years, Faye C. Gutierrez. He is also survived by his son, Jose M. Gutierrez, III (Betsaida); daughter, Priscilla A. Sarratt (Charles); daughter, Faye Laura Reyna (Richard); son, Charles Larry Gutierrez (Susie); daughter, Jeanette L. Martinez (Ike); 10 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and sisters Olivia Gutierrez Munoz and Raquel Gutierrez Raymond (Paul).

The Rosary will be held on Sunday, June 7, 2020 at 7:00 P.M., at Porter Loring Mortuary North Chapel, 2102 North Loop 1604 East @ Gold Canyon Drive, San Antonio, Texas. The family will receive family and friends from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. prior to the Rosary. Due to the current Covid-19 restrictions, seating will be limited to 125 persons and masks are highly encouraged.

The Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, June 8, 2020 at 10:00 A.M., at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 8134 Blanco Road, San Antonio, Texas. Father Antonio Gonzalez will officiate. The church will allow seating for 250 persons and masks will be required at all times.

Entombment will follow in Holy Cross Mausoleum. Father Antonio Gonzalez will officiate. Due to the current Covid-19 restrictions, attendance will be limited to family members and masks will be required at all times. Please feel free to Sign the Guestbook on his obituary page at
