Obituary

Juan Rangel, age 69, left us on April 3, 2018 to be with his mother and father, and siblings in heaven: Maria and Emiterio, Luis, Gilbert, and Pedro Rangel.

He was born in Castroville, Texas on May 23, 1948. He is survived by wife Irma Rangel; children Monica Juarez, John Michael Rangel and Jessica O'Neal married to Max Juarez, Priscilla Rangel, and Sean O'Neal respectively; grandchildren Carolina and Aden Juarez, Daniella, Sophia, and Noah Rangel, Cameron and Jack O'Neal; siblings Josephine Battyany, Rodolfo, Arturo, Gerardo, Antonio, Jesus, and Irene Rangel; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and other extended family.

Juan graduated from Fox Tech in 1967 and soon thereafter started his collegiate career at The University of Texas in Austin, TX all while still courting his high school sweetheart, Irma O., which he married in January 1969. Wanting to be close to the love of his life he moved back to San Antonio and went to St. Mary's University, graduating with a B.B.A. in 1971 and later attended the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin and graduated in 1978, while pursuing a career in banking. He attended and received accolades from the Nonprofit Leadership Program at the Harvard Kennedy School.

After graduating from St. Mary's, he started a long career in banking holding positions as bank examiner, Senior VP, President and CEO, until 2005. He was appointed by Ronald Reagan on May 14, 1985 to be a member of the National Commission for Employment Policy. He then decided to change careers and became the President and CEO of a nonprofit organization named Training, Rehabilitation & Development Institute, Inc. A corporation with a mission "To make a difference in the lives of individuals with significant disabilities by creating and providing employment opportunities for all employees to realize their full potential."
He will be remembered as a selfless individual that was loving, kind, generous, and had a calming effect on everyone. He had a passion for his sports teams the Cowboys and Spurs, and enjoyed Hunting, and Fishing. He was the voice of reason that family and friends would turn to for advice in life. He was a patriarch who inspired to bring out the best in everyone. We are blessed to have such wonderful memories of him and his presence will be missed by family and friends.
