Obituary for Julia Gage Kelleher Stacy

April 25, 1957 - April 12, 2018
San Antonio, Texas | Age 60

Heaven has a new sweet, undemanding angel.

Obituary

Julie Stacy passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 12, 2018, after a long, hard-fought battle with metastatic breast cancer.

Julie was born on April 25, 1957, in New Jersey, though she got to Texas as quickly as she could. She attended Mrs. Bishop's for kindergarten and Saint Mary's Hall thereafter, where she met many dear, lifelong friends. After graduating from high school, she attended Texas A&M University and became a staunch Aggie. She earned a degree in range science and land management, which was fitting with her love of nature and animals.

Julie worked at Sea World of San Antonio for many years, caring for penguins, flamingos and her beloved and endangered Attwater prairie chickens. Her devotion to the natural world continued after she retired from Sea World, and she became a certified Texas Naturalist. Julie was an avid supporter and tireless volunteer for the Texas Nature Conservancy, the Texas Agricultural Land Trust, Friends of Friedrich Park, the Battle of Flowers Association and the San Antonio Botanical Center.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Roxana and John Catto and Walter Negley, by her uncle Alfred Negley, and by her aunt Julia Negley.

Julie is survived by her loving husband of almost 30 years, Dennis Stacy; her beloved son, Kevin Stacy; her devoted parents, Joan and Herb Kelleher; her brother Mike Kelleher and his wife Lisa; her sister Ruth Agather and her husband John; her brother David Kelleher and his wife Kathy; her aunt Roxie Hayne and her husband Jim; her brother-in-law Mike Stacy and his wife Carol; her nieces and nephews, Jack, Clara, Merrilee, Danny, Michael, Caroline, Maggie, Mollie, Robin and Anne; and by many cousins and pets, who all adored her.

Heaven has a new sweet, undemanding angel.

The family is grateful to Dr. Amy Lang and Dr. Mark Thornton for the superb care they gave Julie and for the wonderful staff at Kindred Hospice.
