Karen Jo (Coker) Catanzaro, 63, died on May 3, 2017 after a hard-fought battle with breast cancer. Karen was born on August 23, 1953 to James Coker and Cleo Durham Coker and grew up in Millsboro, DE. She resided in San Antonio, TX for the past 23 years.

Throughout her life, Karen has had a love for music. Going to concerts of all types was something she enjoyed doing with her husband, children, sisters, and friends. Karen also enjoyed travel, both domestically and internationally, and always had a trip in the works. Karen had an immense love for her family. She raised two children and loved having three grandchildren, who she was very close to. She was a good friend to many. Anyone who knew Karen would describe her as positive and strong, despite challenging life circumstances. Karen was versatile and held many jobs throughout her life; her favorite was her time spent as an assistant teacher for special-needs high school students. She loved her students and her students loved her. She had a passion for helping people. For the past several years she was a member of PEO International, a philanthropic organization, where she served as an officer. She also spent time as a board member of the Children's Bereavement Center in San Antonio.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 24 years Richard Catanzaro. She is survived by her daughter, Nina Stewart; her son, Zachary Catanzaro; her sisters, Sheri Fontinha and Beth Skilton; her three grandsons; her niece and nephews; as well as many other close family and friends. Thank you to all of those family and friends who helped care for her and who were there for her.
