Obituary

Kitty Roberts Barclay had nearly a century of great health and vitality that fueled an energetic work ethic, service to others, devotion to family and friends—and love of dancing.

She was born and living in Maryland when Willard Roberts from Texas met her while training as a new FBI Special Agent. He knew she was a great catch and won her and her family over by his wit and "smarts" but also by bringing Fritos — a treat not then available in Maryland.

FBI assignments allowed them to travel to various places, including New York, where two daughters were born. Finally assigned back in Texas, they made San Antonio their home, welcomed a son, and raised their three children in San Antonio's public schools, notably Jefferson High School. Kitty kept an immaculate and loving home and made time to volunteer at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, as a scout leader, and in leadership roles in so many civic organizations that she was once featured in the newspaper as "Club Woman of the Year".

Once her children began college, Kitty went to work as a legal secretary. She became a young widow at age 41 when Willard died. She managed to see all her children through graduation at University of Texas-Austin. She enrolled in then San Antonio College and though older than most students, became popular as a source of perfectly transcribed class notes, and less popular for ruining the grade curve. She was proud of her Associate Degree. She married another FBI agent, David Barclay, gained three stepchildren, and lived in San Antonio and Kingsbury. They frequented Spurs games while he provided security for the team.

After retirement, their travels took them to every state and neighboring country, living for two years in a travel trailer. They also visited dozens of countries, and lived in Walla Walla, Washington, and later in Oregon. Shortly after Dave's death in 2012, Kitty returned to Texas and lived in Seguin. Her love of dancing persisted 'til her last dance just a couple months before her passing.

Kitty's legacy of love, kindness, and service will be greatly missed by her survivors ~ Children: Pat (Burton) Riebe, Judy Godinez, and Alan (Jerolyn) Roberts. Her stepchildren: Catherine Barclay, John (Mary) Barclay, and Jennifer Barclay. Grandchildren: Russell (Sunsedrae) Riebe, Neal (Deborah) Riebe; Dr. Carlos (Teresa) Godinez, Roxanna Godinez, Ric Godinez, Tony (Cindee) Godinez, and Donico Godinez; and Kevin (Nancy) Roberts, Brian Roberts, and Curtis Roberts and 27 great grandchildren.
