Obituary

Dr. Kenneth Cyr, PhD, age 71, passed away on Monday, May 7, 2018, in San Antonio, Texas after a long battle. Dr. Kenneth Cyr was born in Portland, Maine to Merle and Eunice Cyr. Dr Cyr joined the U.S Air Force in 1963 at the age of 17 (with parental consent) and met his wife Maria in 1966 while stationed at Clark Air Base in the Philippines. They were married in 1967. He served two tours overseas during the Vietnam War while stationed at Clark A.B.. Dr. Cyr was accepted in the first round of Physician Assistant programs offered in the USAF through the University of Nebraska Medical School in 1972-73, where he was a top graduate of the second class. He designed the original Air Force Association of P.A.'s emblem. Prior to being stationed for 6 and a half years in the Philippines, he began his study of Psychology. While on Clark A.B. he moonlighted teaching psychology classes at the University of the Philippines - Clark Campus and Central Texas College - Far East Campus. Once returning stateside in 1989 Dr. Cyr concentrated his studies in clinical psychology and received his Master's Degree in Hospital Administration and Marriage & Family counseling at St. Mary's University. In 1993 he completed the PhD program at Union Institute and received two PhD's in Clinical Psychology and Counseling. His work in geriatric psychology concentrated on patients in nursing homes with memory-based illnesses. He was a renaissance man, and an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish and collect gemstones. He was also an amazing father, husband, caring human, singer, guitar player, painter, poet, author and guitarist. He will be sorely missed.

He was preceded in death by, his parents, Merle and Eunice Cyr; and sister, Diane Grimes. Dr. Kenneth Cyr, PhD. is survived by his loving wife, Maria L. Cyr; son, Bryan L. Cyr (Dr. Lilia E.M. Cyr); son, Dr. Steven J. Cyr, MD (Le Ann); son, Michael A. Cyr; Grandchildren, Alexa Cyr, Caden Cyr, Colton Cyr and Ava Cyr; and sister, Debbie Cyr. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM., Thursday, May 10, 2018, at Porter Loring Mortuary North
