Obituary

LeRoy Creighton Hicks, 87, of Rockport, TX passed away peacefully surrounded by his beloved family on October 8, 2017 after a courageous battle with Melanoma cancer. Roy was born December 14, 1929 in Los Angeles, California to Robert and Laura Hicks. He graduated from Midland School in Los Olivos, CA.

He met his wife, Cathy, and they attended USC together for two years. He served in the United States Air force during the Korean War. After Cathy graduated from USC, she joined him in Cheyenne, Wyoming where they were married at Argonne Chapel at Frances E. Warren Air Force Base on October 19, 1951. Roy attended University of Arkansas where was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1954. Following his graduation Roy and Cathy moved to Ft. Worth and in 1969 they moved to Key Allegro.

He was the accountant for Key Allegro Real Estate. He was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church. Roy was very active in the Rockport community. He was a member of the Rockport Rotary Club and a Board member of the Key Allegro Canal & Property Owners Association. He was a co-founder and past Commodore of the Rockport Sailing Club and was an elected Commissioner to the Aransas County Navigation District. He was also a member of Coast Watchers, Rockport Country Club, Key Allegro Yacht Club and a long-time supporter of Texas Maritime Museum.

Roy was a passionate about life. He was devoted to his wife, children and grandchildren. He was a loyal friend and life of the party. He was a life long football fan of the USC Trojans and Arkansas Razorbacks. He will always be remembered for his enthusiasm, sense of humor, and booming voice that could fill a room with laughter and lasting memories of great times. His values were and will continue to be an inspiration to everyone who was blessed to know him. Roy loved the outdoors whether boating on the bays or spending time at their hill country ranch, Thunder Rock. His hobbies included sailing, fishing, tennis and golf. After retirement, Roy and Cathy traveled the world.

Roy was preceded in death by his mother Laura Hicks, father Stanley Hicks, stepmother Margaret Hicks and his brother Forrest Hicks. Roy is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Cathy, their children John Hicks (Cheri), Stephen Hicks (Bev), Sharon Barrett (Osborn) and Nancy Stacy (Howard). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Creighton Hicks (Kelly), Drew Hicks, Alexandra Barrett Bynan (Roger), Hunter Barrett, Harrison Roof, Davis Roof and Ian Hicks.

A Memorial Service celebrating Roy's life will be held on Saturday, October 14, at 2:00 p.m. at Porter Loring Chapel at 1101 McCullough, San Antonio, TX. In lieu of flowers, donations made to a charity of your choice.
