Obituary for Leon Terrell, Sr.

December 6, 1954 - April 17, 2020
Schertz, Texas | Age 65

Leon Terrell, Sr., age 65, passed away on Friday, April 17, 2020 at his home in Schertz, TX. He was born December 6, 1954 in Talladega, Alabama to Lestee Montgomery and William Prince Terrell.

Leon proudly served 24 years in the United States Air Force. He retired with honors in February 1999 as a Master Sergeant. He was later employed in civil service where he began as an Administrative Assistant and rose to become a Human Resources Specialist. Leon retired from civil service after nearly 17 years in August 2019. He also attended Wayland Baptist University, St. Phillips College, and the Community College of the Air Force, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and Business Information Systems, an Associate's of Arts in Business Administration-Information Systems, and an Associate's of Applied Science in Personnel Administration, respectively. During his career, Leon mentored countless airmen and co-workers and was regarded with the deepest and utmost respect and admiration by those he knew. Leon was also a faithful member of Maranatha Bible Church in Converse TX where he served in several ministries.

Leon was a man of great character. He was described by those who knew him as hardworking, trustworthy, reliable, precise, knowledgeable, and steady. Leon set high expectations for himself and those he loved. As a father and husband, Leon worked tirelessly to ensure his family had everything they needed and more. He was strong-willed but compassionate, serious but comical, and he was devoted not only to his children, but also to his siblings, extended family, and friends. Leon valued his family and his faith above all else and went to great lengths to ensure that he remained connected and involved with both. In addition to being a family man, Leon had friends in every corner of the nation from Alaska to Alabama to New York and beyond. He had a personality and temperament that reflected charm, integrity, and a sense of security and warmth. His smile and laugh always filled the room and his playful demeanor was infectious. When not spending time with his family, Leon enjoyed working outside, taking care of his cars, and watching reruns of westerns that aired in his younger years. The legacy he leaves behind is immense and enduring. He will truly be missed.

Leon was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Lois Williams and Carylon Terrell; and brothers William Prince "Bill" Terrell Jr. and Benny George Terrell.
