Obituary

Lionel R. Flores, Jr., age 70, passed away on Tuesday, December 24, 2019 in San Antonio, TX. Born on Sunday, July, 24, 1949 in Mathis, TX to Consuelo and Lionel Flores, he was raised in nearby Orange Grove, TX "Naranjo, TX." He was preceded in death by brother, José "Pepe"; sisters, Gloria, María Concepción "Woody", Rosa Elena, and Consuelo "Mina." Lionel is survived by his wife of 43 years, Melba G. Flores…in all sincerity, the most loving, caring, faithful, and dedicated wife (whom he loved, eternally); son, Víctor L. Flores, his duplicate as far as stubbornness and character, and loving of each other and others; daughter, Melba C. Flores, "Daddy's Girl,"…both adored each other and were inseparable; brother, Rubén Flores and his wife, Norma, numerous nieces and nephews, and cousins. Lionel was a very driven, passionate, and successful businessman, working his way from picking crops in the fields as a child, to working for the people of the State of Texas as a Medicaid worker, in order to ensure their well-being, to owning/managing group homes, providing essential services for the mentally-challenged. More than that, he was the most loyal, caring, and protective husband, father, son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and cousin that one could ever encounter. He loved spending time with his family, traveling, keeping up with current events, music (both Spanish and English-language), and he (with his wife) was/were the best darned barbecue masters ever. He also loved watching a good "Western," an entertaining "Hallmark" movie, a captivating, documentary detective show, and CNN (to keep informed and up-to-date). There will never be anyone else like him, and we wouldn't want it any other way. He was an extremely special person, not just to us, but to the many that knew him. He had an extraordinary sense of humor, and always went out of his way to make people smile. We will love you, ETERNALLY. Forever in our memories, forever in our hearts ("Amor Eterno").
