Obituary

"Death belongs to life as birth does. The walk is in the raising of the foot as in the laying of it down." Tagore, from Stray Birds, 268. Louise E. Young wrote these words in a college essay on death and dying. She was born in Missouri and died at the age of 91. She is pre-deceased by her mother, father, brother Dean, husband Ed, son Larry, and great-granddaughter Rosalyn. Surviving family includes brother Lee, daughters Laura, Carol, and Denise, grandchildren Janet, Curtis, Eric, Leah, Maggie, Shawn, Andrea, Samantha, Ryan, Sarah, Gina, and Deanna (and various spouses), 21 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren. Witty and wise, Louise imparted these, among others, bits of wisdom: On caring in blended families -- "You can never have too many people in the world who love you." and on resolving conflict -- "If one of us has to be unhappy, it might as well be you." Pleasures in life included family, church, reading, travel, operas, crocheting hundreds of hats for the needy, and jigsaw puzzles. We were blessed to have her in our lives, a strong matriarch, and she will be missed.
