Obituary

Lowell Thompson was very much a part of the Greatest Generation, the generation that is the reason the rest of us have been able to enjoy the lives that we have. After marrying his soul mate, he deployed as a bombardier with the 391st Marauders during WWII, flying 16 bombing missions over Germany. After the war, as a member of civil service, he worked in the Dept. of Defense on our missile systems. He enjoyed dancing and had a passion for big band jazz. He was a loyal Dallas Cowboys fan. He had a gentle demeanor and a heart of gold. He was smart, funny, kind and generous, and loved unconditionally. He was fiercely protective, and grateful beyond measure for his friends. He and the love of his life threw great and memorable parties in their hill country home, and enjoyed nothing more than traveling around the country pulling their trailer. Preceded in death by LaRue, his wife of 76 years, he will be sorely missed by his 2 sons and their families including 6 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 1 great great-grandchild, and one very special person who, over the past 15 years, became an integral part of the Thompson family as an invaluable caregiver as well as a close friend. None of these lives will be the same without him, but are so much richer because of him.
