Obituary

Lucinda "Lucy" Rodriguez, age 98, passed away at her home on Friday, August 7, 2020, in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on February 18, 1922 to Lucinda and Daniel Saldana in San Antonio, Texas, one of eight children born to Daniel and Lucinda. Lucy was a 1940 Lanier High School graduate, and worked four years as a secretary at Kelly Air Force Base. Lucy met the love of her life, Joe T. Rodriguez, while he was serving in the Army Air Force during World War II. They married in 1944, and together they had 5 children and shared 61 years of marriage until Joe's passing in 2005. Lucy was a woman of strong faith in God and believed in the importance of living a Christian life. She was an active member of Jerusalem Presbyterian Church, attended church on Sundays, served as elder and a member of the Presbyterian Women's Group. She once successfully petitioned the San Antonio Independent School District school board, collecting over 100 signatures to redefine the school attendance boundaries in her neighborhood. She left behind a legacy of faith and kindness, and selflessly devoted her entire life to her husband, children, grandchildren, great and great great grandchildren who all adored her.

Some of Lucy's greatest joys in life were traveling throughout the U.S. with her family. Virtually every summer she and her husband would pack the car with family and luggage and head out to sights across the country, including Yellowstone National Park, Grand Canyon, Yosemite National Park, Grand Tetons, Big Bend National Park, California and Nevada. In later years, Lucy and Joe traveled to Washington D.C., New York, Michigan, Newport, Rhode Island, and many other sites across the nation, often traveling with their grown children. She was a fan of Big Band music and vocalists from the 40's and 50's era. Lucy and Joe enjoyed dancing at dance clubs popular in the city in the 40's, 50's and 60's. Lucy loved to cook for her family and it gave her great joy that it brought them all together. Her table was open to all who entered her home. Lucy had a wonderful and a long blessed life and she lived it to the fullest. She was a gift to all who knew her. Her special love will live on in our hearts forever. She was dearly loved and already she is greatly missed by all who knew her.

Lucy was preceded in death by her husband, Joe T. Rodriguez; Parents, Lucinda and Daniel Saldana; Son, Alfred Rodriguez; brothers, Abram (Abe), Daniel, Samuel, and Abelardo (Lalo); sisters, Olga, and Alice. Lucy is survived by her sister, Delfa Cervantes; children, Josie Rodriguez-Austin (Doug), Joe T.
