Obituary

Lucy A. McLean, age 74, was called home on August 8, 2019, in San Antonio, Texas after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Shelbyville, TN on November 14, 1944 to John and Lillian Adams and attended church at Pleasant Grove Methodist as a child. She was preceded in death by parents, John Woodward and Lillian Baker TIgert Adams; loving husband COL (USA, Retired) Neil A. McLean III; son, Michael R. McLean; brother, John Woodward Adams, Jr.; brother-in-law, Richard F. McLean; and niece, Jessica M. Porter. Lucy is a graduate of Shelbyville Central High School (1962), Vanderbilt University's Peabody College (1966) and Kansas State University (MS). She started her professional career as a teacher in Connecticut before marrying Neil McLean and traveling for his deployments and raising their five children.

She fiercely loved her family and was affectionately known as Meme by her grandchildren. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and she had a special tradition with each of them. She loved sharing milkshakes and snuggling them. Lucy was tremendously proud of her family's accomplishments. She adored music and played in her high school and college marching band; as well as loved to play the piano for her church and family. She also enjoyed doing for others. She was member of the DAR and loved ancestry research.

Lucy is survived by her children, Margaret M. Duncan (Ken) of Nashville, TN, Neil A. McLean IV (Glenda), Jason L. McLean and Maura E. Stevens (Duke, Jr.); grandchildren: Neil A. McLean V, Keith R. McLean, Michael Ramsey McLean Martin, Duke W. Stevens III, Lauren E. Stevens, Britton H. McLean, Ainsley A. McLean, Cambrie A. McLean, and Neil E. Duncan; brother-in-law, LTC (USA, Retired) William J. McLean (Cheri) of Stillwater, OK, nephew, Sean McLean (Chelsea), aunts, cousins and life-long friends. A very special thank you to Vitas Hospice and most especially for the loving care given by Karen, Chrissy, and Rosa.
