After high school, she became an operating room nurse at Friedrich Ebert Krankenhaus in Neumunster. In addition, she traveled with terminally ill patients to their homelands as a medical attendant. In 1990, she met her future husband, Gerald, while working in the operating room of the Royal Saudi AFB hospital in Dahahran, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia during Desert Storm. In 1992, she moved to the United States and despite her limited English, passed her GED in less than six months. Maren and Gerry were married in October 1992. From 1992 – 1995, Maren worked as an office nurse in her husband's orthopaedic surgery practice. They had their first born in 1994, Gabriella Ariel Goy Greenfield. Their son, Phillip Oskar Goy Greenfield, was born in 1996. Maren was a stay at home mom from 1995 – 2012, being active with the school's PTA, and managing the home. From 2012 – 2018, Maren went back to work with her husband as an office nurse at South Texas Spinal Clinic managing the office, providing patient care, and scheduling until just before her passing. Maren is survived by her family in Germany, her mother and step-father, Christel Nau and Jurgen Nau; sister, Monika Weddern; brothers, Rolf Goy (Ute Goy), Heinz Goy (Karin Goy), Peter Goy (Annette Goy), Rainer Goy (Gabriella Goy); as well as over 20 nieces and nephews.
