Obituary

Margaret Ann Amini was born February 18, 1925, in Kansas City, Kansas, the child of Polish immigrants John and Olga Wenski. She was the first in her family to attend college and graduated from the University of Kansas in 1946 with a B.A. in Journalism. She met her husband, K.K. Amini, an immigrant from Iran, at KU and they were married September 10, 1948 on the "Bride and Groom" radio show in Los Angeles, California. They eventually settled in Texas where K.K. developed a successful oil company. Margaret was always involved in the lives of her children and so much more. She volunteered with the PTA in her children's schools and continued to advocate for children after her own left home. She and her husband started the Amini Foundation and they were especially involved in educational and advocacy efforts including Child Advocates of San Antonio and many local educational programs. Margaret and her husband built many homes in Texas as well as a beautiful ranch outside of Medina, Texas where they also set up a scholarship fund at Medina High School and helped develop the EMS service in the area. They also supported their alma mater by building two scholarship halls at the University of Kansas. They became involved with the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota and funded the Margaret Amini Professorship in Musculoskeletal Research. Margaret loved the outdoors, particularly gardening and tennis. She wrote poetry especially when she was at the ranch on top at Antelope Ridge. For all the wonderful things she did, however, Margaret's first love was her family, 4 children, 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She did the best she could in everything she did. She had a fierce desire to live and experience life, holding nothing back, contributing to the world around her and seeking out the next challenge. She left behind a great legacy of love for which her family is so very grateful.
