. . . the heart of her family; she will be sorely missed for her strength, tenacity, and infectious laugh.

Obituary

Maria Concepcion "Concha" Ramirez, age 85, passed away on Friday, July 12, 2019 in San Antonio, Texas surrounded by her husband and four children along with another thirteen family members. Concha was the fourth child born to Santiaguita Herrera and Carlos B. Lopez on September 17, 1933 in Del Rio, Texas.

She met her husband Aurelio at a dance in San Angelo while attending Shannon Nursing School at San Angelo Junior College. They married on November 14, 1954 and enjoyed 64 years of blissful marriage together. Following her husband at each new journalism job, they moved from El Paso to San Angelo to Laredo before finally settling down in San Antonio in 1963. While there, she worked as a nurse's aide in the San Antonio Northeast Baptist Hospital. In her later years she also cared for the elderly, becoming a trusted friend and companion to them in the last years of their lives.

Concha devoted most of her time to raising four children. She loved cooking and was a master in the kitchen. All those she leaves behind will remember her puffy tacos, fideo, and German chocolate cake. Concha's hobbies included painting ceramics as well as quilting and sewing which she continued with the finest attention to detail even in her ripe, old age. The San Antonio Spurs and Dallas Cowboys games were also beloved pastimes. She rarely missed a game and can still be heard cheering them on from Heaven. Lastly, Concha enjoyed games of luck whether it was a small poker game with her children and grandchildren or any number of casino slot machines.

Concha cared deeply about her family and cherished the time they spent together. All her children and grandchildren knew and felt her tremendous love for them. She also highly valued education for her family. It was of the utmost importance to her that all her children and grandchildren graduate from college. Thus far, all have or are in the process, with the youngest grandchild entering college this fall.

Her faith provided a strong foundation for her life. She joined the parish of St. Pius X in 1964 and was active in ministry. She had a special devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and for many years prayed the rosary daily. We are comforted knowing that she is now at peace in her Heavenly home.

Concha was the heart of her family; she will be sorely missed for her strength, tenacity, and infectious laughter.

She is preceded in death by her parents, one sister and one brother: Santiaguita Herrera and Carlos B. Lopez, Bertha Lopez Perez, and Carlos Lopez.

Concha is survived by her loving husband, Aurelio Ramirez, Jr., her four children and their spouses, Ana Linda Ramirez (Renee Block), Maria Antonieta "Toni" Moreno (Gilbert Moreno), Aurelio Ramirez, III (Sara Ramirez), and Rebeca Garcia (Rafael Garcia, Jr.). She will also be remembered by her eight grandchildren Gabriel Moreno, Catherine Domingo (Raymond Domingo), Rafael Garcia, III, Amelia Ramirez, Alejandra Ramirez, Amelia Garcia, Carlos Garcia, and Isabel Garcia and her great-grandchild Andrew Domingo. She is also survived by her step-grandchild Richard Krause (Lily Krause) and two step great-grandchildren Brenson Krause and Tenley Krause. Many nieces, nephews, and cousins are mainly spread throughout Texas, although some are as far east as Massachusetts and west as California.

She also leaves behind three sisters and two brothers: Tomasa Lopez Benavidez, Maria Herlinda Lopez Benavides, Guillermo Lopez (Carolyn Lopez), Carolina Margarita Lopez Camargo (Ernesto Camargo), and Gregorio Lopez (Barbara Lopez).

Mass will be concelebrated by Fathers Pat and Francis. Interment will follow in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Aurelio Ramirez, III, Gilbert Moreno, Rafael Garcia, Jr., Gabriel Moreno, Rafael Garcia, III, Carlos Garcia, Raymond Domingo, and Christopher Camargo.

Prayers for the eternal rest of Concha's soul in her Heavenly home are most appreciated. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the San Antonio Northside Lions Club.
