Obituary

In the early hours of April 09, 2018, as her children stroked her hair and held her hand, Martha Chacon Romo, gently passed away. It was a characteristically loving final moment which she imparted to her daughter, M. Victoria McLeod, and son, Dr. Victor M. Romo Jr. The 85 years she spent from California to Mexico to Texas were marked by intelligence, beauty and a gregarious spirit which will forever remain singular and remarkable in their nature. A child of the Pacific Ocean, she was born on August 11, 1932 in San Diego, California. She spent her childhood amidst the salty breezes of Mazatlan, Mexico. Under the doting gaze of her mother, Virginia Murua, and her aunt, Carlotita Murua, she developed into an independent, charismatic and formidable young woman. Her sense of adventure and ability to inspire loyal friendships led her back to California and Los Angeles. She cherished her time at UCLA Medical Center, working as a cultural liaison for visiting international physicians. In the early 1970's her personal life was forever enriched when she wed the man who would adore her until his last breath in 2012, Dr. Victor Manuel Romo, Sr. Together, Martha and her, 'Cielo', relocated to San Antonio, Texas in 1972 and established the Family Practice of Victor Manuel Romo, MD on Blanco Road. For over three decades, they served the San Antonio community with compassion, dignity and respect. Mrs. Romo, the front office and heart of the practice, never failed to share a kind word, offer a supportive hug or deliver a heartfelt laugh. In addition to innumerable friends across the world she is survived by her family: daughter, M. Victoria McLeod, son-in-law Christopher McLeod, and granddaughter Evangeline Vivienne Marta-Katerine McLeod of Cheshire, United Kingdom. Son, Dr. Victor Manuel Romo, Jr., daughter-in-law Malisa Vatanadilok Romo, and granddaughter Lilas Malisa Romo of San Antonio, Texas. The Murua clan, family of beloved cousin Luis Murua of Guadalajara, Jalisco.

We will celebrate an extraordinary woman; a steadfast wife, a beloved mother, a treasured grandmother, and a valued friend on Monday April 16, 2018. Viewing from 6pm, Service at 7:30pm at Porter Loring, McCullough, San Antonio, Texas. Reception to follow at the family home in Castle Hills. All are welcome. Flowers are gratefully accepted.
