Martha was a beautiful lady, always willing to listen to others, and always had a smile on her face. She never had a bad thing to say about anyone.

Martha Lopez Munguia, age 97, passed away on November 20, 2018. She was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Martha was born on August 9, 1921, in San Antonio, Texas. She was the only beloved daughter of Joaquin and Isabel Lopez.

Martha attended Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic School, Travis Elementary, Mark Twain Middle School, and Thomas Jefferson High School where she graduated in 1941. At Thomas Jefferson, she was president of the Spanish Club and secretary to the commandant of the ROTC. While attending Thomas Jefferson one of her closest friends introduced her to the love of her life, Ruben Munguia. Martha and Ruben were married in 1943 and began their family.

After graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School, she secured a position at Kelly Air Force Base where she worked in the Material Procurement Section and became supervisor of her unit. Martha excelled in her duties and took pride in her position at Kelly.

As her family was growing, Martha dedicated herself to her husband and children. She was active and very much involved in her children's school activities serving several years as room mother and PTA president at Crockett Elementary, as well as Irving Middle School.

Martha also helped her husband, Ruben, at the family business, Munguia Printers, Inc. This was a growing business and Martha would assist Ruben in various capacities at the printing business.

Martha was also very active in the San Antonio community. Throughout many years she was a member of the Ladies LULAC Council, Pan American League – PALS, El Patronato, and the Restaurant Association - Ladies Auxiliary. Martha also served on the City of San Antonio Electrical Board, Morningside Manor Board, and the Bexar County Appraisal Review Board.

Martha is survived by her three children; Martha Munguia Ybarra and her husband Edward C. Ybarra, Ruben Munguia, Jr. and wife Linda Munguia, and Mary Munguia Perales and husband Raymond A. Perales, 8 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.

Recitation of the Rosary will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 2114 W. Houston, San Antonio, Texas on Thursday, December 6, 2018, at 9:00 am following with a Mass at 10:00 am. Immediately following the services, she will be buried next to her husband, Ruben Munguia, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
