Obituary

Martin Galan Rodriguez, Sr., age 68, passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2020, in San Antonio. He was preceded in death by his father John C Rodriguez, mother Mary Rodriguez, and brother Michael Rodriguez. Martin is survived by his wife of 50 years, Diana G. Rodriguez; his two sons Martin and Joseph, their wives, and seven grandchildren. His nieces and nephews have many fond memories and will miss his dearly.

He started his career with the City of San Antonio, working as a dog catcher. His daily duties included cleaning out dog kennels at the pound. Through hard work and perseverance, he was able to move up the ranks. After thirty-four years of he retired as the Director of Code Compliance with more than eighty employees in his division. He set an example for his sons and showed how hard work could provide for a family.

Martin leaves behind many lifelong friends who will miss his dearly. So many friends who have always been there for him and his family and ready to tell funny stories about him growing up weather he wanted them to or not. His friends have so many nicknames for him, "Hooder," "Wolf," "Tigo," "Martinized!", and many more. With these types of friends, Martin's memory will live forever.

One of his favorite memories is when he was the head coach and team manager of the legendary Texas Reds (Aka Redsox). He made real connections with these young men, many of whom are still family friends. He remembers the coaches and players and bragged about his team up until the last year of his life.

Martin had many roles in his life, but what he was best at was the role of grandpa. When he retired, he took on the role of full-time grandpa. He drove his grandchildren to school daily, fed them breakfast, and often covered up for them when they got in trouble. (NIV Mathew 7:16) "By their fruit, you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thorn bushes, or figs from thistles? Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit." You can tell a lot about Martin when you see how much his grandchildren love him.
