Obituary for Mary Alice Gueringer

August 13, 1927 - February 20, 2018
San Antonio, Texas | Age 90

Mary Alice Gueringer, age 90, passed away on February 20, 2018. Mary Alice was born on August 13, 1927, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Hilda (Niklaus) and Clarence Ehrhardt.

Mary loved her childhood in New Orleans, filled with memories of doting relatives and Mardi Gras. At 13, her family moved to San Antonio, which she also loved, making it her permanent home. At this time she joined a Catholic youth group where she made wonderful life long friends. She graduated from Ursuline Academy. She was then employed for a short time by American Casualty and Life Insurance Company.

In 1947, at the age of 19, she married the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Gueringer. They had a wonderful 67 years together, raising six children. Mary was a wife and mother who always found time for laughter, and was never too busy to make a cake and have a party. She was an expert seamstress, and a talented cook. She considered all these things her "role de la vie"! However, she also found time to sell Avon, worked a short stint with Montgomery Ward, and then ten years at the Texas Highway Department.

After raising her family, she found great delight in all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She did volunteer work at the Methodist Hospital, the McNay Art Museum, and the Terpsichorean Dance Club. She also fulfilled her dreams of traveling the world with Bob. They had such grand adventurers!

Mary will be remembered for her beautiful smile, her friendliness, and her generous hospitality. She lived a full life of love and laughter, "joie de vivre"! She will be missed.

Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert (Bob) Gueringer, and her son, Robert (Terry) Gueringer. She is survived by her children, Jeanne Fulkerson and husband James; Peggy Gueringer; Tom Gueringer and wife Tomala; Kenneth Gueringer and Mary; Carol Tabberer and husband Malcolm; and daughter-in-law Rhonda Brock Gueringer; also, 13 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. Numerous other relatives and friends.
