Obituary for Mary Ann Alvarado

July 26, 1937 - May 5, 2020
San Antonio, Texas | Age 82

Beloved sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother

Mary Ann Alvarado, beloved sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed on to eternal rest on Tuesday, May 5, 2020. Mary Ann was preceded in death by Carlos, her high school sweetheart and husband of 50 years.

Mary Ann lovingly raised three children, providing life-long care, advice, guidance, and an example to each. She was an active part in the lives of her grandchildren, and though diminished by long illness, was always ready to hold and play with each great-grandchild. The love she gave her family did not come from duty or obligation -- her family, through its many generations, felt from her a love freely and generously given out of a desire to want each in and part of her life. She was most happy when surrounded by her family, and her family thrived in the embrace of her love.

She is survived by her children, Carlos Alvarado, Jr. and his wife, Anna, Daniel Alvarado and his wife, Irene, and Theresa Alvarado-Cunningham and her husband, Edward; her sister, Ora Rutherford; and her brother, Anthony Hernandez and his wife Catalina . She is also survived by her grandchildren, Maria Celeste Alvarado-Behl (Greg Behl), Anita Laurin King (Gordon "Trey" King), Rachel Ann Alvarado, Alicia Lynette Gray (Kenton Grey), Rita Nicole Osborne (Cory Osborne), Rebecca Renee Alvarado-Crouch (Mark Crouch), Crystal Ann Rodriguez (Ryan Rodriguez), Rosanna Danielle Alvarado (Tainese Miller), and Andrew Carlos Alvarado; great-grandchildren Gordon Jose King, Elliot Alejandro King, Matthew Christopher Rodriguez, Alessandra Eden Behl, Liliana Grace Osborne, Riley Faye Crouch, Maci Marie Rodriguez, and Gabriel Atticus Behl; as well as, numerous nieces and nephews. Each will deeply miss her, and she will live on in their remembrances of her.

Mary Ann was active in various organizations throughout her life to include the Cub Scouts of America, PTA, Women's Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus, St Paul's Alter Society, St Paul's Sewing Circle, and various Parish Committees. Her life and presence was generously shared with many and her loss will be deeply felt.
