Obituary

Mary Gordon Anderson, age 89, passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2019 in San Antonio, Texas. She was born in Atlanta, Georgia on July 8, 1929 to Thomas G. and Gertrude (English) Wolfe.

Mary Gordon grew up in Atlanta, where she met her husband Bob at the rink, where she was practicing for her roller derby tryout. She was a University of Georgia student at the time, and Bob was a ROTC student at Georgia Tech. In spite of where he was going to college, the lifelong Bulldog fan married him anyway. Mary Gordon and Bob bounced around the world during his USAF years, from cocktail party to cocktail party, from Germany to Trinidad and the US in between. Mary Gordon and Bob retired on the east coast of Florida in Satellite Beach, where Mary Gordon perfected her world famous 7-10 split and spare pickup in both mixed doubles and ladies' leagues. She and Bob enjoyed bowling, cards and travel. In Florida, she also became a Disney World expert, hosting grandkids and family for 100s of days at Disney. She enjoyed roller coasters well into her late 70s. She also picked up line dancing.

After Bob passed away, she enjoyed traveling, and completed over 40 cruises. After 16 years in in Florida she felt that the bowling and bridge competition had diminished in the state. So, after some research, she found better competition in San Antonio during a visit with her daughter and decided to relocate in 2003. She lived in Independence Village in Stone Oak where she made many friends. She continued her cruising as well as her bowling, bridge and line dancing in Texas will into her late 80s.

Mary Gordon was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Col. Robert (Bob) H. Anderson, Sr. USAF (Ret.). She is survived by her daughter, Jan Streep and husband Bill; son, Bob and wife Denise (of Wasilla, Alaska); grandson, Ryan Anderson (an Alaska State Trooper that you have probably seen on TV); sister, Carolyn Smith; granddaughters, Theresa Streep and Stephanie Streep-Tuley of San Antonio; and her 3.8 great grandsons and numerous great grand dogs.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28, 2019, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
