Mary Jane Ritter, born September 24, 1939 passed away suddenly and unexpectedly after undergoing minimally invasive spine surgery in August of 2018. She was 79, and a native of San Antonio. She died Friday, October 12, 2018 at a local specialty Hospital.

Mary Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Mary DeRudder, and siblings, Henrietta Grothues and Roland DeRudder.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Robert F. Ritter, Attorney; Children, Carl Joseph Ritter, and spouse Dawn, Mary Frances Ritter, and Paul Allen Ritter; Grandchildren, Dalton Ritter-Kajs, Jack Robert Ritter and Katherine Grace Ritter.

Mary Jane was known for her love of teaching and her students commended her dedication. A graduate of Our Lady of the Lake University with a Masters degree, Mary Jane was awarded Alumnus of the year and devoted many years to working with the Alumni Association. She was also an active member with the San Antonio Bar Auxiliary and enjoyed hosting tours of the Bexar County Courthouse to all of the local schools in San Antonio.

Mary Jane was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She cherished her family and led a full and wondrous life. Her love of music led her to be a skilled pianist.

Mary Jane's love story began when she married Robert Ritter at 20 years old. A young and vibrant Attorney from Oklahoma swept Mary Jane off her feet with volumes of love poems and a charming and endearing personality. They built a bond that would last 58 years. They traveled extensively and would always return with beautiful artifacts, gifts and souvenirs for everyone.

A loving and passionate couple, Bob and Mary Jane would hold hands like they were always on their first date. She will be missed by all, but her radiant smile, vibrant spirit, and warm and loving heart will be remembered forever.

The Family will be receiving guests at Porter Loring North Thursday, October 18, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. Rosary will begin at 7:00pm.

Funeral Services will continue on Friday October 19, 2018 at 4:00pm with a Mass of Resurrection at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 223 E. Summit Ave. 78212.

Burial to be held the following Friday, October 26, 2018 at 10:15am at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
