Obituary

Mary Jeanne Carinhas was a kind, vibrant, loving and generous woman; the kind of person who would do anything for those in her life. She loved deeply and with great care. She cherished her family and friends and made everyone she spent time with feel special, effortlessly endearing herself to everyone she met. She never met a stranger. She was a woman of style and grace who loved to laugh and had a charming sense of humor. She embraced adventure in her life, loved to travel, explore new places and make her own fun. She enjoyed creating menus for special occasions, parties and holidays and was the consummate entertainer. Even though Mary Jeanne suffered from dementia over the past ten years, her sweet and beautiful spirit shone through and she considered everyone her friend. She is now free from all earthly concerns and is at peace with the Lord.

Mary Jeanne was born in San Antonio, Texas on May 15, 1940 to her parents Mary Jane and Billy Floyd Haggard and was their precious "Jeanna". She attended Incarnate Word for primary and middle school (with a short stint at St. Peter Prince of the Apostles School during second grade), Incarnate Word High School, and then Incarnate Word College earning her bachelor's degree in education. While at college she met Joe Carinhas. They fell head over heels for each other and were married for 58 years until his death in 2019. She spent her early years raising their four daughters, but soon became involved in the family company, Longhorn Packaging, Inc. and served as Vice President. In addition, she was actively involved in PTA, The Conservation Society of San Antonio and St. Monica's Guild.

Mary Jeanne is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Joseph. She is survived by her four daughters, Jacquie McGregor and son-in-law, Brant; Jill Carinhas, Cathy Johnson and son-in-law, Preston; and Kim Koch. Mary Jeanne is also survived by her six grandchildren, Hollis and Gray McGregor, Wesley and Julian Johnson, and Devon and Corbin Koch.

The family would like to express their deep gratitude to the caregivers who helped Mary Jeanne over the years, especially Alma Doria, Heidi Pierre and Eva Flores. Their loving compassion and unwavering dedication to ensure Mary Jeanne was safe, happy and well cared for will never be forgotten. Alma, Heidi and Eva were Mary Jeanne's best friends and angels on earth, and she loved them with all of her heart.
