Mary Lou (Powell) Griffith
July 5, 1920- February 3, 2018

Born to Birdie Clyde (Smith) and John Powell in Dallas, Texas. At 3 years of age, she moved to San Antonio with her mother.

She had a tremendous love of music and movies starting in elementary school. In 1937, Mary Lou graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School, San Antonio, Texas. She was the Senior Class Treasurer, a 2nd Lt. R.O.T.C. Sponsor, belonged to the Sponsors Club, the Skelton Club, Student Council, and voted as "The Best All-Around Girl". After graduation, Jefferson remained part of her life, working as the secretary for her class reunions lasting into the 1990's.

For a few years she belonged to the Jefferson Alumni. She remained close friends with a group of her elementary school friends, high school friends, and church friends, all of her life. After graduating, she had various jobs as secretary and office manager, working in doctor's office, geological library, at Kelly Air Force Base and as church secretary for 22 years. Her hobbies included sewing, embroidery, reading and tole painting. At 18, Mary Lou married Jack Fuller Long and had a daughter, Patricia. In 1951, she married Ben Milam Griffith and had a daughter, Debra.

Mary Lou is preceded in death by her mother and father; Ben her husband of over 50 years; two sisters; and a great grandson.

She is survived by daughters, Patsy and Debbie; 5 granddaughters; 10 great grandchildren (3 girls and 7 boys); and 3 great-great grandsons.

Visitation will be on Monday, February 26, 2018 from 10:30 am to 12:00 noon at Porter Loring on McCullough.
