Obituary

Mary Sue Conner was born on March 7, 1931 in Virginia, to Richard and Willie Howerton. As the youngest of four daughters, she grew up near Danville, Virginia and graduated from Schoolfield High School. Soon after graduation she moved to Washington D.C. to work at the FBI and eventually met and married the love of her life George Lloyd Conner. Together they began a blessed and happy 61 years of marriage. They had three children, Richard, Beth and James.

Setting up a home in Maryland, Mary's family was everything to her and as a homemaker she devoted her life to have and make a happy home. But she was so much more. A very gifted woman, she used her talents as an accomplished seamstress, painter, all-around craftswoman, gardener, and cook to bring beautiful and admirable things to her family and friends' lives. Mary loved flowers, birds and music, and had a very bright mind and lived a simple and uncomplicated life. She had a beautiful smile and enjoyed a good laugh.

She also was able to travel and experience the world with her family, living in Germany for three years, visiting many European countries, and seeing many parts of the United States, Canada, and Mexico. She was very fond of her memories of her journeys and enjoyed reliving her experiences.

Mary continued to live in Maryland until George retired in 1999 and they moved to San Antonio, TX to be closer to her only grandson, Daniel. 19 years later, she never regretted moving to the hot Texas weather. Little did Mary know, she would also find a new daughter in Juany (James' wife). The two formed a bond that was very special and will last forever.

In 2011 Mary and George moved to Independence Hill where they found a true community of friends and caring staff that provided support and love for Mary and George. The last 7 years have really been a blessing.

The Conner family offers it gratitude and appreciation the staff of The Enclave, Linda's Personal Care Home, and Kindred Hospice for making Mary's final days comfortable and happy. We especially want to thank our caring and dear friends Nurse Dorothy Muir and Chaplain Brian Clayton. Her last journey was so much more comfortable and peaceful because of your kindness and loving compassion.

Mary left her earthly life on September 15, 2018 to be united in heaven with her daughter Beth, her parents Richard and Willie, and three sisters Alma, Lucy and Mildred.

Mary is survived by her beloved husband George, her sons Rick, Jim and his wife Juany, and grandson Daniel, as well as her "adopted" grandkids, Christian and Melissa Hernandez.

Your sympathies and condolences are welcomed and very comforting to our family in this sad time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to the Kindred Hospice Foundation.
