Obituary

Melvin R. Blumberg, age 85, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2019. He was born in Denver, CO. to Rueben M. Blumberg and Lillian Ginsberg. He met his loving wife Nettie at the University of Texas and they were married for a total of 50 years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He served in the US Army and was honorably discharged. He worked as an attorney and internal auditor for many years at Santa Rosa Hospital. He was an active member of the San Antonio and Temple Beth-El communities. He enjoyed musical theater, opera, the symphony and wrestling. He participated in many community theater productions, often with his children or grandchildren. He is preceded in death by both parents, his loving wife Nettie and his twin brother Alvin Blumberg. He is survived by children, Jay Blumberg (Nancy), Rebecca Goldman (Charles), Joel Blumberg (Ellen) and Debra Shindler (Eliot); grandchildren, Jacob Blumberg (Lisa) and Jeffrey Blumberg (Molly); Joshua Goldman, Jillian Lipper (Ben), Jamie and Jake Goldman; Sarah, Hannah and Benjamin Blumberg; Ashley, Juliana and Jason Shindler; great-grandchildren, Zachary, Theodore and Oscar Blumberg; Hazel Lipper and Avett Goldman; brother, Elliott Blumberg (Loesja) and sister-in-law, Amelia Blumberg. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Porter Loring Mortuary North. Graveside service will follow at 2:00 PM at Beth-El Memorial Park, 1715 Austin Highway.
