Obituary for Michael Clayton "Clay" Rodriguez

April 5, 1969 - February 24, 2019
San Antonio, Texas | Age 49

Michael Clayton "Clay" Rodriguez, Senior devoted husband, father, craftsman, and servant leader passed away February 24, 2019 at the age of 49. Clay was born on April 5, 1969 in San Christobal, Tachira, Venezuela.

He is survived by his wife of 21 years Brenda Garcia Rodriguez and sons Michael Clayton (Junior) and Matthew Kendall all of San Antonio, his parents Rodrigo and Sandra Dyson Rodriguez of Houston, brother Landon Rodrigo Rodriguez and wife Stephanie of Round Rock, his brother in law Gary Garcia and wife Tina of San Antonio. He is also survived by nephews Landon Kyle Rodriguez, Michael Caleb Rodriguez, and Cameron Pearce Rodriguez. Additionally, Clay is survived by a host of friends turned family including members of the Judging Contest Sub- Committee, East Central FFA families, and those from Guadalupe County 4-H Shotgun Sports.

One of Clay's biggest joys in life was playing an active role in the life of his boys Clayton and Kendall. He always made time to help with whatever project the boys were working on. From shooting sports to football to band competitions to stock shows and anything and everything in between. Clay was happiest when with his family supporting in any possible way. His family did not just stop with blood relatives. He had many "extended" family members.

One of his extended families was born from his commitment to the San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo. Clay recently served as chair for the Judging Contest Subcommittee of the Livestock Committee. This was a very special part of every year for Clay and his February Family. Members of the full time SALE staff even commented on the strong bond of this subcommittee to which Clay and Brenda have belonged for more than 15 years. This February family wasn't just his family for one month out of the year but year-round. He was always ready and willing to help them and anyone else in need even if the only problem was rescuing some beer trapped in a bottle while listening to some great country music.

Clay enjoyed nights out with friends and family, but was happiest at home with his six pack of Miller Lite on his porch surrounded by those he loved. He will be dearly missed as he touched everyone he encountered. He left this earth better than he found it and we are all better people because he was in our lives.

The family will receive friends Monday, March 4 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Porter Loring located at 1101 McCullough Ave with a prayer service and opportunity for friends and family to share stories about Clay beginning at 7:00 PM.

The funeral service will be held at St. Jerome's Catholic Church 7955 Real Road on Tuesday, March 5 at 10:00 AM.

A burial service will follow at MeadowLawn Memorial Park located at 5911 E. Houston Street at 11:30 AM.
