Obituary

Michael D. Thatcher, age 80, went to heaven on Thursday, September 20, 2018 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on August 13, 1938 to Lorraine Thatcher and Kermit Morin.
Michael began his career in the broadcast radio industry where he served as general manager in various Midwest markets. He loved radio for the many people that he got to meet and for all the personalities that he worked with on a daily basis. While never behind the microphone himself, Mike had a smooth voice that carried him far with his ability to work with anyone. Michael's love for children and family was evident being an active board member and helping get St. Jude Children's Hospital off the ground. This was a cause that he cared about and was passionate about until the very end.
In the late 80's, "Papa T" had an opportunity to move to a warmer client and he moved his family to the Rio Grande Valley where he joined a successful sign company, Hiway Neon. This family owned business was a perfect fit for a man who never met a stranger and loved all the aspects of client relations and customer service.
Mike was an active member at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church where he served as Eucharist minister and served in the Knights of Columbus as their Grand Knight.
In 2014 "Papa T" finally retired and moved to San Antonio to be close to his family. He occupied his time by watching his grandson Jack play baseball all over South Texas and spending lots of time with his sweetheart Genell whom he met at the local YMCA Silver Sneakers class.
Mike was a man loved and respected by so many because of his kindness and gentle spirit. He was quick witted and loved to laugh, and never ever had a bad day. He woke up everyday looking for happiness, and always said "it starts with the right attitude!"
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Donna K. Thatcher; sisters, Merrily Westerhaus and Sherry Thatcher. Michael is survived by his son, Michael T. Thatcher and his wife, Roberta; daughter, Michelle Wilcox and her husband, Dave; grandson, Jack Wilcox; his sweetheart, Genell Slay; and brother, Kim Thatcher.
