Obituary

Mike Manuppelli died peacefully in his home on December 2, 2017 at the age of 90. He was predeceased by Kelley Manuppelli, his wife of 62 years. He is survived by his son, Scott and two daughters, Molly and Kelly Sue and their families, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mike led a full and robust life, grounded by a strong devotion to his family, church, and community. He built a successful business from the ground up and he was an active leader in civic and professional affairs.
A graduate of Jefferson High School and (the former) A. & I. University (1950), Mike began his business career in heavy duty vehicle parts and eventually founded his own company, Automotive and Truck Parts, Inc. in 1974. Hard work and good business sense helped the business to flourish; the company is now owned and operated by his son, Scott Manuppelli.
Mike's leadership roles and contributions to his community were numerous and varied: he served as Chairman of the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce and as Chairman of the board of St. Luke's Lutheran Hospital. He chaired both state and national boards of the Automotive Industry Association. He served on task forces for air quality, base realignment, and state and national small business councils.
Mike and Kelley were life-long members of Concordia Lutheran Church. Mike served on and chaired several committees related to the Church's development and expansion.
Among honors that Mike received was the National Conference of Christians and Jews Humanitarian Award in 1994.
In recent years Mike and Kelley travelled extensively throughout the states and overseas, often with family members. Mike and son Scott had an annual date in west Texas, in November, at the opening of deer hunting season.
The bedrock of Mike's life was his family and faith. With their own children grown, he and Kelley were foster parents for several years. They took increasing joy in their own young adults' marriages and expanding families. Annual holiday gatherings in San Antonio and South Padre became a tradition for the whole family: Mike and Kelley were the parents and grandparents that the family looked forward to visiting: it was a treat, not an obligation.
Mike Manuppelli: an inseparable bond with his wife, his family, and his God. The family will grieve his loss but know that he is at peace and will always be with us.
Mike is survived by Molly and Tim Kraft, Scott and Debby Manuppelli and Kelley Sue and Kevin Grubbs; six grandchildren: Colt and his wife, Josie, Holden, Hannah, Luke, Joshua and Michael, and two great-grandchildren, Beau and Rozlyn.
Memorial services will be at Concordia Lutheran Church, 16801 Huebner Road, on Saturday, December 9, at 10:00am. Memorial contributions may be made to the Concordia Lutheran Church building fund or Lutheran Social Services, 8305 Cross Park Dr., Austin, Texas 78754.
