Obituary

Mildred Mae McLellan Matthews, age 93, went to be with Our Lord and Savior on July 6, 2019. She was born April 5, 1926 in Winona, Mississippi to Samuel Rowe McLellan, Sr. and Annie Mae Thomas McLellan. She married the love of her life on October 26, 1946, William Preston Matthews. They have two daughters Melinda and Melanie. Mildred was a cherished wife, mother, and grandmother who will be dearly missed.

Mildred loved spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed sewing, square dancing, being a Girl Scout Leader, and anything where she could be creative. Mildred was a long-time member of Concordia Lutheran Church and enjoyed participating and volunteering at many church events. Mildred and Preston began square dancing when they moved to San Antonio in the early 1950's and they met many of what would become their life-long friends. There was a special group of square dancers that formed a Supper Club and when they were not square dancing they gathered regularly to dine and socialize. The Supper Club stayed intact for decades through all of life's ups and downs. They also enjoyed traveling.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Samuel R. McLellan, Sr.; her brother, Samuel R. McLellan, Jr.; and nephew, Kirk McLellan. She is survived by her husband of 72 years, William Preston Matthews; her children, Melinda Patierno (TM Engelhardt) and Melanie England (Ed); grandchildren Brandon Patierno (Hollie), Cara Bond (Kris), Daniel Patierno (Ashlyn), and Brian England; and niece, Cindy Stewart (Ric).

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 10th, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, July 11th, 1:30 p.m. at Concordia Lutheran Church. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Girl Scouts of America.

The family would like to thank all the caregivers from Grace Hospice and Heart to Heart Hospice. A special heart-felt thank you for all the love and care that was given by Margaret Espinoza and Patricia Arroyo and their loving families while Mom was in their home. We will be forever grateful.
